How Perth Film School Kick-started my career as an Actor.
On the 30th of June 2015, Perth Film School had the honor of hosting a Showcase with Frog Management.
Established in 1980 by principal, Vivian Poulton, Frog Management is Western Australia’s longest established theatrical casting agency well-known for representing the young Heath Ledger back in the day.
Those who participated in the Showcase had also attended a Prep Class taught by Hollywood Actor, Mahesh Jadu.
You may recognize Mahesh Jadu as “Ophir” from the Hollywood Movie iFrankenstein and as “Ahmad” from Netflix’s Marco Polo. Soon, he will be on the big screen again alongside Johnny Depp in the latest installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales releasing in 2017.
The Showcase with Frog Management was such a success with so many talented young actors Showcasing their talent that they’ve decided to return to Perth Film School for a second time this coming 1st of August 2015.
Actor Jack McAullay, a Perth Film School alumn, participated in the first Frog Management Showcase.
Here’s what he had to say about Perth Film School and the Frog Management Showcase:
“And the Oscar goes to…”Words I have dreamed of far too many times to count. From a very young age I have dreamt of being one of those magical people that graced my television and theatre screens.I have always been as story teller and would forever be telling friends and family I’d be on the screen some day, but after 10 years of saying I would someday chase my dream, it took and email to Nicole at Perth Film School for me to kick start my journey.Walking through the doors for the first time I immediately questioned what I was doing, putting myself out there in front of strangers, this was the furthest from my comfort factor I had put myself. But to the schools credit and their ‘No Ego’ philosophy, I immediately felt safe and welcomed by the staff and students. The showreel that you receive from the Hollywood Package has been invaluable to me as a new face to the industry. Not having any work that has been filmed in the past to this point, I had nothing to aid me in my pursuit for auditions or seeking representation. The value of having this work available as a fresh face I experience only weeks after one of my scenes was uploaded onto PFS’s YouTube channel, when I was cast as the lead for role I didn’t have to audition for. The director and producer were sold purely by the performance in the scene they had watched.Networking will be one of the most important parts of your job, especially in such a small community in Perth. And PFS has served me endlessly in that regard.Through the school, I have had the opportunity to work with amazing film crew that have solid names in not only Perth’s film circle, but Australia’s and even Hollywood.I was lucky enough to work with and be directed by Mahesh Jadu, whom is currently cast in the Netflix series Marco Polo and starred in Hollywood Blockbuster I,Frankenstein. The class mates you meet in your course will be shoulders to lean on long after you finish at PFS, I have made great friends through the school, whom are like minded, ambitious dreamers with equally lofty hopes of grandeur. The biggest positive though I can attest to was after a showcase the school held with an acting agent, I managed to get a meeting and begin working with one of Perth’s top agencies, that has had me auditioning for paid work already. So if you think like I did, that acting is something you have always wanted to do, but have no idea where to start, or you have no foundation to your craft at all. If you’re ready to put in the work and drop the ego. Perth Film School can help you well on your way to kick starting your career.Hell, if at the very least you just want to spend a few months working with some great people, learning some confidence building techniques, and coming out with a professionally made couple of clips to show your family and friends. It’s definitely worth your time looking at the packages Perth Film School have on offer.A great actor once recited the lines that I try to live by and helped me with my choices to chase my dreams, “the future is not set, there is no fate but what we make for ourselves”
