This April, Perth Film School is offering a 4-week Intro to Voice Over Course, led by one of Perth’s most experienced working voice artists, Katharina Surtees
Across four practical evening sessions, you’ll learn how the industry works, how to deliver scripts naturally, and how to start building the foundation of your own voice over toolkit.

- WEEK 1 — Welcome to the BoothLearn the landscape of voiceover and start using your voice in the studio.
- Vocal care and warm-ups
- Understanding voice over genres (commercials, narration, explainer, eLearning, promos, IVR)
- Studio etiquette and microphone technique
- Introduction to recording environments
- Record your first short voice sample
- WEEK 2 — Performance & PresenceDelivering a Script
- This week focuses on the craft of voice acting.
- The power of intention — who are you speaking to?
- Tone, tempo, beats, and inflection
- Conversational reads vs announcer reads
- Practicing with real commercial scripts
- Recording your script performance
Recording Like a Professional
- WEEK 3 — Studio Skills & Self Direction
- Learn the practical skills needed to record voice work independently.
- Setting up a simple home studio
- Microphones, audio interfaces and sound treatmen
- Introduction to a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)
- Script marking and long-form reading.
- Self-direction and recording practice
- WEEK 4 — Your Voice Over PathFinding Your Style & Planning Your Next Steps
- The final session focuses on understanding your unique voice and where it fits in the industry.
- Listening to professional voiceover reels
- Identifying your vocal strengths and style
- Branding basics — what kind of voice do you offer?
- Re-recording your first script and hearing your progress
- Creating a simple plan for entering the voiceover industry
