7 TIPS FOR AUDITIONING

Auditioning for anything can be a very daunting experience. It doesn’t matter if you are new to the world of acting or not, everyone gets nervous. It’s just a matter of feeling confident and being prepared. The following is a list of tips to remember for your next audition:

1.) ALWAYS BRING A PICTURE AND RESUME

Even if you have a manager that promises to “send it over” to them, ALWAYS bring your information with you to the audition. If you don’t, you will be remembered as the actor who wasn’t prepared.

2.) DON’T PRETEND TO MEMORIZE THE MATERIAL

Casting director’s love to hear you read the words as they have been written. If you can’t remember the lines and then you start to make up your own to get back on track, it will not reflect well on you. If you forget just refer back to the script and give it your all.

3.) DO NOT MAKE EXCUSES

It doesn’t matter if you have a cold or if you’re too tired from work, you’re there to succeed, show them your best.

4.) MAKE YOUR FIRST 15 SECONDS COUNT

Think of this as, you’re meeting someone for the first time. You want to give an amazing first impression so you know that you’ve got them hooked.

5.) DON’T START OVER

You said the wrong line? Don’t start over, fight through it. Odds are it wasn’t as bad as you think, and everything sounds different to the person you’re auditioning for.

6.) ALWAYS AUDITION

The best way to master auditioning is repetition. The more you do it, the more you will be able to be yourself. If you get nervous more then you would like to admit, then constant auditioning is a great way to overcome that.

7.) REMEMBER THE THREE Cs

Be comfortable, charismatic and confident. Actor’s have to be the most interesting people in the room. They have to be someone that everyone wants to get to know. If you can do that for yourself then they will know you can do that in a character.
